Farewell, Југославија

2022
29x42 cm
Watercolor on paper & digital medium

My grandmother from my mother's side is a Yugoslavian Turk.
She moved back to Turkey with her family when she was around 12 years old.
Once she left Yugoslavia she never had any chance to return back which is really sad in my opinion, whenever I catch her talking about her old hometown I always find her looking sad and homesick. The saddest part yet is that she had completely forgotten Macedonian by the time she was 30 by never having a chance to speak it with anyone that made me think about being left an outcast by each one of your nationalities; She did not grow up in Turkey so she does not hold the same values and beliefs as other people her age did. But when she was living in Yugoslavia she was not fullyYugoslavian because of her blood. So it is as if she did not belong anywhere during her youth.. at all. She has this photo of her in her living room one day I caught my uncle calling the photo that this drawing is based off on “Elveda, Rumeli” which translates into “Farewell, Yugoslavia” when I unknowingly took a glimpse at my grandmother I could see her tear up and looking at her old self in an awe, this was what drove me into recreating her last ever photo just outside her old house.

Kafam Çorba Oldu

Watercolor, collage on paper

Kafam çorba oldu, which translates into “my head has turned into soup” is a Turkish idiom that is used when someone is confused and does not have any idea what is going on, by being inspired by this idiom and a Turkish soup made by using brains ,I created this project.
Frankenstein's Creation

2022
29x42 cm
Ink, watercolor on paper

Frankenstein by Mary Shelly is one of my favourite books so much so that I can say
that it is my favourite book that I have ever read due to the fact that it was what got
me into classic literature. I found Frankenstein to be gory yet beautiful which when I
later looked at my own portfolio was the theme that I had for the majority of my
drawings.Things do not have to be black and white they can be grey as well and the grey
which is implied here is where gore and beauty mix. I find that Frankenstein’s
abomination is actually beautiful in its own messed up -gory way the efforts and
hours that Vicor Frankenstein put into into his craft and animating him makes him
beautiful before his creator decides to push him away. I wanted to capture that sense
of beauty and passion that most of the artists go through with their work, you know
what I am talking about its the staying up until 4am to finish a project that makes
what you work on beautiful no matter how you might feel after looking at it when you
wake up.
A Child's Imagination

2022
22x35 cm
Ink on paper

This illustration depicts the image of how far a child’s imagination can go. It is not secret that kids have the most active imagination of all but it does not all mean that it can always be good whereas sometimes the ones with the most active imagination of all have the most problems with sleeping at night or walking home at night with the paranoia of they are being watched, it is them the most active of all whom have these kinds of thoughts.

An Hommage For A Queen

2022
32x47 cm
Gouache, watercolor on paper

History holds a special place in my heart and the Tudor era is one of my favorites to learn and read about, Anne Boleyn is one of my favorite historical figures, as I love powerful women in history. I found it unfair that almost all of her portraits were burnt down after her execution, as no one deserves to be forgotten no matter how good or bad they are. They still deserve to hold a memory in history so that the same actions won't be repeated again.

Original Characters Turnaround:
Analog Camera-Storyboard

2022
29x42 cm
Watercolor on paper

This storyboard follows the events of my original story “befriending ghosts”. One of the two main characters that I have, Winn(the blonde one) has an atypical relationship with her ancestors, as she can see them in fact she and one of her great-grandaunts share the same face, as she tries to live up to expectations set in ghost hunting set
by her ancestors they make Winn’s sense of identity fall apart. This storyboard rather looks deeper into how their stories differ and how they end, or do not in Winn’s case.

The character that served as a model for my 3D project is one of the original characters in my story called “Befriending Ghosts”. This character is one of the ghosts that the protagonists meet during the events of the story. After designing the character for a storyboard, I wanted to turn it into a sculpture.
